LBT: Maharashtra government offers traders amnesty scheme


The traders who have not paid the local body tax (LBT) have yet another chance to remit their dues without penalty and interest.

The traders who have not paid the local body tax (LBT) have yet another chance to remit their dues without penalty and interest. The state cabinet has given its nod for the amnesty scheme for traders to pay LBT dues.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, while speaking to the media after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, said that the traders' associations had resorted to agitations against LBT and that is the reason many a traders have not paid their dues. He also informed that if the traders pay their dues towards LBT till March 31 at one ,go their penalty along with interest would be waived. He added that the cabinet gave nod to this decision and traders can avail the amnesty till the May 31 dealine.


The state cabinet also decided to provide relief to paddy growers by giving them Rs250 per quintal. Fadnavis said that the previous government had given Rs200 per quintal and his government has increased the amount. He also informed that as compared to the previous government his government has purchased more rice from the farmers. He informed that this was not a bonus for the paddy growers but it was ex-gratia and the amount would be deposited directly in to the account of the paddy growers.

Chief minister Fadnavis informed that two districts of Yavatmal and Osmanabad have been selected for the pilot project to prevent farmers' suicides. He said that the sub-divisional officers have been appointed as guardian officers and they would implement various measures of interventions through integrated scheme for preventing suicides. The scheme involves counselling along with identifying vulnerable families and providing income source through various means.

Fadnavis further informed that his government has decided to provide Rs1,000 per quintal for the export of raw sugar. He informed that the Center provides Rs4,000 for raw sugar export.
